Jill Wood, age 41, from Sprotbrough in Doncaster, will scale the peaks of Pen-y-ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough in under 12 hours on April 13 with 11 others from Doncaster 7 Ladies Circle.
Ladies Circle is part of the Round Table Family which has been running for more than 80 years. The Doncaster 7 group meets monthly to socialise, arrange fundraising and have fun.
They hope to raise a total of £2,000 for The UK Sepsis Trust, an organisation dedicated to ending preventable deaths from sepsis (also known as blood poisoning) and improving outcomes for sepsis survivors.
Mum-of-two Jill, who is Managing Director at Signum Facilities Management in Doncaster and also runs a football club in her spare time, has a taste for adventure, having already jumped out of a plane for a skydive.
Jill said: “I love a challenge and the Three Peaks is something I’ve always wanted to take part in because it combines stamina, willpower and physical strength. Not only that, it involves team work and spurring each other on when the going gets tough!
“We can’t wait to get our walking boots on raise money for The UK Sepsis Trust, a cause that is close to my heart because our current Chair, Colleena Vozniak-Sears contracted the illness three weeks after giving birth to her youngest son.”
In the UK, 52,000 people lose their lives to sepsis every year, which is more than breast, bowel and prostate cancer combined. Globally, sepsis claims the lives of six million people each year. However, with early diagnosis the condition is easily treatable.
“Not many people know that every 3.5 seconds, someone in the world dies of sepsis,” Jill added. “If our contribution helps in some way to raising awareness and helping survivors, we’ll be happy climbers.”
Jill has already begun her grueling training regime for the 24 mile route which includes 1,585m of ascent by walking every weekend and pushing herself further each time to ensure peak fitness.
The three peaks are part of the Pennine range and surround the head of the valley of the River Ribble, in the Yorkshire Dales National Park.
