There has been a lot of information released about the responsibility employers have to ensure the safety of their staff when back in the workplace. This is an issue we’ve taken incredibly seriously over recent weeks and, as such, had already introduced a number of important measures before lockdown began. Here, in our latest blog, managing director of Signum Facilities Management, Jill Wood, explains what the newly released Government advice means and the enhanced steps we have now taken to become ‘COVID secure.’
As our business looks to get back to full strength over the coming weeks and months, it will see our staff out and about more doing what they do best. Therefore, it’s been an absolute priority for me to make sure we have all the vital health and safety measures in place both for the safety of our staff but also of our clients. It’s essential that not only do our team feel protected as much as possible on our premises and when making any essential site visits but that our customers also have full confidence in us to deliver our services as safely as possible.
Meeting Government requirements
The latest Government guidance about working safely during coronavirus comprises of eight sets of guidelines for businesses which are opening – namely construction and outdoor work, factories, plants and warehouses, homes, labs and research facilities, offices and contact centres, restaurants offering takeaway or delivery, shops and branches and those working with vehicles.
It is quite clear from this document that businesses have to do all they can to make sure they are ‘COVID Secure’ and that they can demonstrate they are meeting the requirements of providing a safe working environment. Inspections will also take place to check workers are being kept safe.
We can reassure our customers that we are meeting the requirements needed.
So, how are we helping our staff to work more safely?
From the beginning of this pandemic our staff were actively undertaking a number of strict hygiene routines. This is certainly no different now but what we have also done is a full review of these measures against the most recent advice.
All Signum staff are fully equipped with hand gels, wipes, on board handwashing kits, face masks and gloves and have a clear hygiene policy to follow. The Government guidance stipulates that face masks are not required by law so they are optional for our staff and only worn if they feel safer doing so or if it is a requirement of the site we are working on.
In addition, we will continue to:
- Not make physical contact with anyone on site if not essential
- Provide an alternative method to signing job sheets
- Stand at least two meters away from any or your staff to ensure social distancing
- Maintain the recommended safe distance in our working areas using barriers
- Clean down work areas on completion with an antibacterial cleaning agent
- Clear and take away all rubbish
- Complete a daily clean of vehicle hard surfaces and work equipment
These are unprecedented times and many of these new processes required by Government are new to us all but our employees here at Signum understand how important they are not just to them and their families but for their colleagues, our customers and the whole of society. We have made all the adaptations necessary and, as a team, we feel we are in the very best position to continue the vital work we do as safely as possible.
If you have any questions or queries about the measures we have introduced or would like to discuss your facilities management in light of the latest Covid-19 government guidance, please call our team on 01302 340 695.
