Signum FM’s managing director, Jill Wood, is taking on a mammoth walking challenge covering the distance of the Route 66, along with her colleagues from Doncaster’s Ladies Circle.
Jill, managing director of Signum FM and president of Doncaster Chamber of Commerce, along with 15 others from the Ladies Circle group, is aiming to walk more than 5.2million steps over the next three months, raising funds for Aurora Wellbeing in Doncaster.
The charity, which supports local people living with a cancer diagnosis, is a cause close to the group’s heart as Nayla Byron, the group’s current Chair, has a family member being treated for breast cancer at present.
Jill Wood, said: “We’re excited about getting our Route 66 walking challenge underway, aiming for more than 5.2million steps between our group, over the next three months.
“It’s not an easy challenge but, we’re raising money for a vital local cause, an appeal that means a lot to our members, personally, and getting outdoors and active, too, which is more important than ever at present.”
The team will be measuring their progress using the World Walking app, which allows users to track their steps against distances and famous landmarks around the world.
They hope to achieve their goal of walking the distance of the Route 66 by October, in time for Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
Jill, added: “Cancer is something sadly touches so many of our lives be it first hand or through our loved ones. We are taking on this challenge to support Nayla and her family member at this difficult time, with the hope of raising vital funds and awareness, too.”
