Here at Signum Facilities Management we work with schools across Yorkshire to enhance the environment for students and staff alike by managing and delivering exceptional building maintenance.

Back in 2015, we did such that for the wonderful Mansel Primary School, which is part of the Steel City Schools Partnership (SCSP), when we helped convert a disused building into a meeting space and to provide an area for a nursery. Here in our latest guest blog, Jon Bell, head of estates at SCSP, tells us more about how he worked with Signum to get the job done in style!

SteelCity_beforeMansel Primary School is a fantastic school but we are always looking to build on the offering we provide to our pupils, their families and carers and staff so we were really pleased to embark on the project to convert a derelict building on site into a usable space that would add real value to our school community.

The plans involved creating a meeting space and the provision of a nursery and early education facility and we looked to Signum to support us with this work.

The biggest challenge was at the start as we were desperate to get the specification of works exactly right and to ensure we made an old derelict building fit to what we needed. It took a lot of work but we were so pleased as the project went seamlessly and the end result has made such a difference.

SteelCity_afterThe facility has enabled the school to provide an early educational start in life for young children in the area and the meeting side has helped generate some income to the school while also setting a good impression of the school as the refurb standard was so high. The space still works for us today and it is exactly what it was designed for. We’ve had such amazing, positive feedback and the staff and children enjoy the space greatly.

Looking back, I’m really proud that we achieved what we set out to do and the building is widely used meaning that our investment in the project was more than justified.

I would definitely work with Signum again and find their approach to any works to be very professional and helpful plus the quality is superb. The Signum team worked with us from start to finish to get the right outcome for our project and, once everything was agreed, Signum took over and delivered exactly what we needed.
